I was in a car accident and can't work. I am on Medicaid and Medicare. I need braces to fix my teeth. Will Medicaid or Medicare cover it or do they see it as cosmetic surgery?
Dental Insurance?
Was the accident your fault? It is considered cosmetic but you can make small payments at most orthodontist office's.
Reply:They should cover it. It's hard to know what to tell you without more info. Was the accident your fault? If not the other person's ins. should cover it.
Reply:Depends on the state you are in. Some have dental benefits for adults, others do not. Most plans will not cover orthodontics for adults, regardless of why they need them.
It also can depend on your age. Some plans say you are an adult at 18. Others say 21. The best thing to do is call the dental number on the back of your Medicaid or Medicare card. There will be an option for dental. They will be able to look at your benefits and tell you what is or is not covered.

Reply:Although I am having trouble imagining a situation where you might need braces due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, if this is truly the case, the treatment might be covered by the medical liability (PIP - Personal Injury Protection) aspect of your car insurance or that of the other vehicle, if there was one.
