I have a question regarding dental insurance & getting help?

I've been told i am going to lose all my teeth within ten years. Well, those ten years have probably came and went. I have gum disease and need oral surgery. I'm also very, very, very fearful of dentist. the times i've gone they've had to put me to sleep. Well, i'm going to lose all my teeth and don't feel i'll be able to go on living. i'm only 45. I need a plan to try and get my life back. I'm in pain now, have been for over a month, and i keep popping advil, motrin, aleve, probably too much. what can i do to get health insurance or a dental plan that covers surgery and can help me get a set of teeth? cause i imagine i'll lose them all, there's too much bone loss not to. I'm scared, cause i know i can die from infection if i don't do something soon. anybody got an answer or sugestions? please don't be cruel, i'm already an emotional wreck.

I have a question regarding dental insurance %26amp; getting help?
You're not going to be able to escape this problem without throwing down some cash, and facing your fears. I suggest going to dentalplans.com and picking out a discount plan, which may help lower the cost of oral surgeries, and dentures. Also, if you go to a general dentist who does not use general anesthesia, you will save yourself a lot of money. Also, i recommend signing up for CareCredit, which can be found at CareCredit.com. This is a health care credit card, which can help you break down expensive procedures into monthly payments. CareCredit and discount plans are not accepted everywhere, but both website will help you find a dentist who accepts their product. I understand your fear of the dentist, however, sometimes in life we have to face our fears, and you will find out that going to the dentist is not that awful. Everyone has had bad experiences, etc., but you need to remember that the dentist is there to help you. If you feel pain while the procedure is ongoing, TELL THEM. They will not continue if that is the case, but they are also not mind-readers! Hope this helps a bit, and I urge you to do something about this problem, because doing nothing is only hurting you.

If you can't afford dental insurance, do you think the dentist should give you a small discount?

If you don't have dental insurance, tell me how you can ask the dentist for a small discount or if he should give you a discount.

If you can't afford dental insurance, do you think the dentist should give you a small discount?
Hey Jewel,

I am a dentist and if a person pays for the service in full on the same day I render it I will give them an 8% discount (Only 4% with a credit card as I have to pay the 3-4% for credit cards used in my office). I don't do this for insurance patients because I have to collect the insurance payment directly from the insurance company and that takes a couple of weeks so I don't receive payment the same day. One person suggested Care Credit for financing treatment and that it a great suggestion. I don't work with Care Credit but I work with the Dental Fee Plan through Capital One which is very similar and I'm sure your dentist has some institution he or she works with- just ask them. I don't consider it tacky when a patient asks for a discount as long as they do it tactfully. Just say something like "Do you have a discount for cash patients?" Believe me cash patients are my favorite patients. Insurance companies are a pain in the butt to deal with and I have to take a discount when working with them, so I sure don't mind to do it for my cash paying patients. BUT...I DON'T GIVE THEM A CASH DISOUNT UNLESS THEY ASK FOR IT.

if u can afford something u should not buy it
Reply:if you don't have dental insurance you can sit down and discuss this with your dentist. chances are they won't give you a discount but many have affordable payment plans or something called a 'sliding pay scale'. both of which make it easier for someone of lesser means to afford the dental care.
Reply:I don't think that they have to but I do appreciate when they do.

Just ask if they have discounts for non insurance holders; mine gives me a discount but then I go to him because we are friends. Before I went to my friend I went to a dentist that gave discounts to non insurance holders.

Open and honest.

You are not asking for free work. Just a discount, lots of different places will give a discount if you ask. Do you get mad at people for negotiating the price of a car?
Reply:you can get adiscount dental card online, only 35 dollars save alot of money.
Reply:Dentists are in business to make money too. I would never dream of asking a dentist for a discount unless I had been going to that dentist for a long time and had built up a rapport, a relationship with them. And even then, I believe I might be too embarrassed to ask.
Reply:You should not get a discount. Try going to a dental school, they do work for cheap and sometimes free.
Reply:my dentist did for me, my insurance ran out for the year and i needed 2 rootcanals and 3 wisdom teeth pulled he said dont even worry about it, he did it for free! you can ask by saying i dont have any insurance is it alright to make payments then he might give you a deal and ask what you can afford. good luck
Reply:Usually if you have to ask, they aren't kind hearted enough to do anyway. You need to ask around. My friend's dentist always gives her a discount because he knows she's a single mom. Just find out who the jerks are and the nice guys are before you go.
Reply:No. If I can't afford food I would never ask Safeway for free food.
Reply:Sadly, they probably aren't going to give you a discount. Billion dollar insurance companies however, DO get a discount. Go figure. If you need to have the dental work done, try setting up a payment plan. It would at least make it a little more managable.
Reply:A lot of dentists will give you a discout. Just ask them if they have special rates for uninsured patients. I do have dental insurance and can tell you that for the most part its a crock. I just started using a company called CareCredit that helps finance dental work. You can get a line of credit from that will allow you to get what you need done and pay it over a couple years if needed. They also will show you dentists in your area that accept that payment option. It's worked well for me considering without it I wouldn't have been able to have dental work done even with the insurance! What a joke it is.
Reply:Actually, just by not carrying dental insurance, you are already getting a discount. Most dentists compensate by charging patients who do have insurance more than someone without insurance. They actually charge the insurance I should say,not the patient. Most insurances work this way. They have to compensate for the loss somewhere and it ends up costing the person who can afford insurance more because the premiums go up or the deductibles cost more.
Reply:Lots of misleading information posted here!

Dental insurance works in several different ways:

PPO, or participating providers - the dentist agrees to discount their regular fees in exchange for belonging to a Network. This "feeds" a certain number of patients into the practice, but the dentist gives up some of what he/she would usually charge.

HMO, or health managed care - the dental office accepts a certain monthly $$ amount per patient. The patient then can get certain procedures done at NO cost and the dentist can't charge any more from the patient. Of course, if the doctor is only getting a set amount, he/she isn't going to to the best, most expensive, or most time consuming work.

Fee for service: the dentist charges everybody the same amount and collects from insurance for those patients who have it. The patient is responsible for the bill regardless.

Most dentists charge what they think is fair based on what it costs to deliver the care plus enough of a markup to pay the staff, maintain the equipment, and take continuing education courses. It takes more time and money to give the best quality care.

If a person does not have insurance, sometimes a "bookkeepping courtesy" is given of 5 to 15%. This is because the dentist doesn't have to wait 30 to 60 days for the insurance to pay, doesn't have to hassle with the forms, etc. This is if you pay your bill IN FULL at the time of service.

Most dentists I know are nice people and take pity on the truly needy - old people, disabled, single moms, etc. People who just want stuff for cheap don't get the same break and I don't think they should.
Reply:If you can't afford health insurance, should the cardiovascular/transplant surgeon give you a small discount?

I perform a lot of work without charging a fee. I am happy to extract teeth, perform exams, take x-rays, etc., without charging for them if I feel that the patient is truly in need.

Dentistry, as a profession, sucks. It's often times difficult work, and patients typically hate us for doing what we are supposed to be doing--taking care of their oral health. Not a single day goes by where I have a patient I have never seen before convey to me in some form their hatred of dentists. We don't get the same respect as physicians do, despite the fact that our education and service to the community are very comparable, and public perception of dentists is generally negative (can you think of ANY television program or movie where dentists were cast as even-keeled professionals?)

We practice dentistry because we genuinely want to help. And that attitude pervades into our daily routine. You may not realize it, but there are things for which your dentist could justifiably bill you but hasn't.

I'm perfectly ok with doing things for free. But when patients come along and use the word "should" with regard to discounts, I find it extremely belittling to what we do, and absolutely inappropriate. We are doctors, not hair stylists.

Should I put my newborn daughther on dental and vision insurance?

Obviously, when she is born in 2 weeks I plan on adding her to my health insurance. However, it seems unwarranted to add her to vision and dental right away. Any thoughts? Also, if not right away, when would you add a new child to vision and dental insurance? Thanks in advance!

Should I put my newborn daughther on dental and vision insurance?
You may not have a choice--some insurance plans require that the child be added when she is born, or she can't be added at a future date at all. If that turns out to be the case, I'd put her on dental now, and skip the vision unless it's extremely cheap.

If the plan allows you to defer adding her until a later date, then you'd want to add her by age 3.
Reply:yes u should cuz my son was only a month old and i had to bring him to see if there was something wrong with his eyes..* hes alright but thats the point u never know if u might have to do that*
Reply:I would add her to vision and dental not so much for the dental part of it but for the vision part of it and also for overall health insurance because not only is there going to be a whole helluva lot of pink eye theres also going to be tons of ear infections.
Reply:Babies don't develop 20/20 vision until they are 2, and before that, the pediatrician can do any necessary checks. Dental insurance isn't necessary, she doesn't have any teeth. I would add them around 2 years of age.
Reply:If you have the choice- I'd hold off. My husband insurance MADE us put all the kids on it when they were born.

Where Can I find good dental insurance?

I need dental insurance that will cover oral surgery, as I have 2 ingrown wisdom teeth.

Where Can I find good dental insurance?
You can only get Delta Dental through an employer. If you already have medical insurance, it will often pay for wisdom tooth removal if done through an oral surgeon. If you do not have it, then I would look at getting health insurance privately that covers it. There really are no 'good' private dental insurance companies... you could try Denticare, American Dental Plan or Ameriplan.

Do you have medical insurance? In many cases, your medical insurance will pay for the extraction of wisdom teeth if done by an oral surgeon.

If you have no medical insurance, then really all you can do is try plans such as Denticare, American Dental Plan or Ameriplan. There is no such thing as 'good' dental insurance unless you can get it through an employeer.

Any reccomendations for a good dental insurance??

i have health insurance through my job, but they do not offer dental.

Any reccomendations for a good dental insurance??
You have five options with dental.

1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance.

2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you.

3. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans.

4. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health %26amp; dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes... concerning these plans.

5. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404.

I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo... specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.
Reply:Its hard to get individual coverage with dental insurance.

There are lots of companies that have so-called "plans", but they are just discounts, not actual insurance, so be careful in your search.

Delta Dental does offer individual in some states.

Does anyone know of any dental insurance programs that cover braces?

I am looking for any dental insurance program which covers the highest percentage of the cost of braces. Does anyone have any suggestions, companies, or providers they know of?

Does anyone know of any dental insurance programs that cover braces?
First, you should understand the concept of "dental insurance".

Companies sell policies and collect premiums from a number of individuals in a group. The company is profitable only if more people pay in than use up in benefits.

If you, as an individual, buy an insurance plan for ortho coverage, it's for sure you will use it and it would make no financial sense for the company to pay out benefits.

Bottom line: you just can't pay less for benefits than a company would pay out.

Good news is, most orthodontists take payments. You'll need a substantial amount as a down payment, but the balance can be paid out over the course of treatment. Look for ads in your local paper or phone book. Payment in full could net you a substantial discount if you have a cheap source of credit. Many orthodontic offices use credit agencies such as Care Credit or Denal Fee Plan to help their payments get the treatment they need.
Reply:Good question. I'm 20 and getting braces next week. Since I'm over 18 my regular dental insurance doesn't cover it, but my dad has some program at his work called "execu-care" (I'm not sure about the spelling). Supposedly they are going to cover all of it for me. I don't know anything about the company, but you should look it up if you can.
Reply:well the company i work for saves you up to 80% of ortho work (yes thats braces) and teeth whitenings and cleanings xrays etc etc

youd have to check with one of the dentist thats a provider to see just how much i know its definitely over half around where i live. its only 11.95 a month too so its affordable and you get vision (lasik surgery eyeglasses contact etc) precription and chiropractic care included with that cost! i can email you the info and you can check it out for ureself. its a legitimate 15 yr old company and theyve saves alot people alot of money however i cant solicit on answers so you can email me and put in "dental"in the subject and ill send you the link...ok?

What is the best discount dental insurance available?

I recently found out I have to get a root canal and I don't have any dental insurance - I need help!

What is the best discount dental insurance available?
Dental discount plans are not usually worth the cost. Finding a dentist who will accept a fraction of regular fees if they are able to fill appointments will full-fee patients might be difficult. In fact, many people have found that NO dentists in their area (at least, not dentists they would WANT to visit) accept the discount plan.

The State of Montana sued one of the main plans, Ameriplan, for insurance fraud and won. Please investigate carefully before giving personal information to internet-based plans.

Ask your dentist about financing plans through such companies as Care Credit or Dental Fee Plan. You'd be much safer!
Reply:Couldn't say it any better than Emm.

The discount plans are not worth the money or the time. Your best bet is to try the dental care credit or any other credit card you may have.

The other less expensive option is to have an extraction, sorry

Broken Teeth

Do anyone know anything about Dental Insurance?

I am trying to purchase some dental insurance for my family and i would like to know of any good companies for indivdual coverage.

Do anyone know anything about Dental Insurance?
My personal experience is that most families with fairly healthy teeth lose big time buying their own insurance, and that families with unhealthy teeth at best break even. The cost of regular checkups and daily home care (flossing and brushing) is far cheaper out of pocket than out of most individual insurance plans premiums.

I would advise you to first do research on how dental insurance works, decide what (if any) coverage you need, and find a good broker if you still decide that you want it.

The only time recommend dental insurance to a patient is if their employer is picking up at least half of the premium. Otherwise, you'll save more money going out of pocket and/or using your medical savings (aka Flex spending) accounts.

Also, beware of psuedo-insurance: discount plans masquerading as dental insurance. If you pay less than $150 only once a year to go to a limited list of participating dentists, you are getting a discount plan, not insurance. Many of these plans negotiate dentistry at deep discounts. You pay the company a membership fee, they pay absolutely none of it towards your dental care. Be careful; the economics of these plans gives doctors every temptation to bait and switch you into higher priced elective procedures.
Reply:My sis used Delta Dental - it gave a max of $1650 a year - this was thru her company but would have cost around $30 a month - she still had to pay a %age contribution on most things!

So cant give you any overall advice but just how she found Delta
Reply:You will not generally find good dental insurance for individuals. The thing is, insurance companies are in BUSINESS and they want to make a PROFIT. They know exactly how much any given group is going to spend for their dental needs, so they construct a fee schedule for that group and decide how much premium that they will need to charge to pay out those fees for that group and still make money. Dental insurance can be a big loser for the insurance companies, because EVERYONE has dental problems. Not everyone has a heart attack.

Where can i buy individual dental insurance?

it will need to be stand alone dental plans, becuz i will have a seperate medical insurance

Where can i buy individual dental insurance?
In my opinion there's no good dental insurance anywhere. On top of the $30 to $60 per month premium most dental insurance has a $50 deductible, a yearly maximum that they pay out of $750 - $1500. Co-insurance for most procedures of 20% - 50% and waiting periods of up to 36 months for major procedures.

I'm an independent health insurance agent and I do not have dental insurance. Instead I have a dental discount fee for service type plan. You can find a plan for around $100 per year here: http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo...

These plans have no deductible, no waiting period, no annual maximums and no pre-existing condition exclusion.

One word of advice before signing up with any dental plan. Make sure to check the dentist provider list and pick a dentist (if you can't find your dentist on the lists). Call the dentist to make sure they're still taking the plan and they're accepting new patients.

Do not confuse dental discount plans with medical discount plans. The medical discount plans are mostly scams.
Reply:Sometimes your medical insurance can also refer you to dental service providers. But if they don't, here are some links for you. A search under "compare dental plans" or "dental insurance" on your favorite search engine may also provide more links.

Can anyone recommend a good dental insurance plan for implants?

I need about 20k of work in implants and cannot afford it. I need to find a good dental insurance plan that would provide some coverage to help me pay for this.

Can anyone recommend a good dental insurance plan for implants?
Hi my name is Jeffery M Salerno DDS

Unfortunately, there are very few insurance plans which offer implant coverage. Most insurance plans will pay for some of the restorations placed on the implants but do not cover the surgical placement of implants.

Insurance plans usually have a max allowable payout per year. For example they will pay a percentage of the first 1000-2000$ depending on the plan and type of coverage. Any other work after that within a 12 month time period is out of pocket by the patient.

I suggest looking into (Care Credit )or talking to your bank about a loan to cover the treatment you need.

Good Luck
Reply:Ask the dentist who wants to do the implants the best insurance for this work - as it varies state to state.

We switched to Horizon health care (dental) for ortho coverage it's better then what we had.

Self employed people...Is buying private dental insurance worth the cost?

The premium plans cost a fortune, the affordable plans only cover cleanings and a small percentage of procedures. Either way, when you add up the total price....cost of plan + out of pocket at time of service, it seems to come out fairly close to what you would pay if you paid cash at the time of service.

Is there a practial reason for a self employed guy to buy dental insurance? If anyone knows of a good dental plan that is actually worth the cost of premiums in West Michigan, please post.

Self employed people...Is buying private dental insurance worth the cost?
Probably depends on how good of shape your teeth are. If you have had a lot of work done already and foresee more in the future, then they might be a good deal. Personally, I have had like 3 cavities in 32 years, so I don't bother with it. If you get a Health Savings Account plan for your health insurance, you can use that money to pay for your dental checkups and at least get the benefit of using pre-tax money.

I am looking for a good dental insurance plan?

I am in my 50's and have dental insurance but it doesn't cover some of the major things. I am looking for a supplemental insurance program that might help with the major expenses I might incur in the future. Does anyone out there have any suggestions of any companies I should look at?

I am looking for a good dental insurance plan?
The above 2 posts are TRUE! However, there is still hope for all. There is a way to receive up to 80% off of your dental visits no matter how many times you go. What I mean to say is. Say you get a cleaning in June and are covered up to 80% you pay about $25 then you want another cleaning in July, Yep you pay $25 again. Try to do that with insurance. What about Braces, you ask. You can receive up to 56% off on braces. Most insurance companies only give $1000 a lifetime for Ortho work. Let's see there is more... There is no age limit, all on going dental problems are excepted. Excluding Braces that are already in the mouth. You could get all this and FREE prescriptions, FREE Vision Care, and FREE Chiropractic Care. You say why do you need all that. Well let us look. Your medical insurance is good and covers vision, say you get a pair of brand new glasses today and someone sets on them next week or even 2 months from now. Will your insurance company, buy you new ones? NOPE! But, you can receive up to 60% off on all lenses and frames. There is so much more!! You want that info contact me. ccarr@ameriplan.net
Reply:I have the same problem..at my dentist he has a supplemental insurance that I am sure is offered nationwide which is like a credit plan and you can apply for and get some type of card for extra dental cost and pay over time..check some of the websites for like a dental credit card or something that sounds the same..also sometimes dentists if you have a relationship with them with give you some time to pay a bill off..my dentist is wonderful..and basically I guess where the cost of dental care has increased over 700%i in the last several years our dental insurance (most) have stayed he same as far a coverage..I don't think people carry dental care like they carry medical coverage.
Reply:The above answer is correct. You cannot afford to go without medical insurance, but you can afford to go without dental insurance. Let me give you some figures.

In my company the cost of single coverage for dental is $27 per month. ($324 per year). For that I get 100% (of reasonable and customary) for cleanings. Roughly $100 value per cleaning. So if I have no further problems, I've paid in $124 MORE in premiums than I collected. (Remember in the case of medical, you're more than willing to do that because the risk of a heart attack or fatal disease with catastrophic costs are certainly a possibility). However, most dental plans have an annual limit. My plan has $1000. It only covers a lifetime max of $1000 for orthodontics and then only for kids under a certain age--as an adult, I could not get braces.

So let's say you need a crown, that's certainly a major service which could cost $1,000 and you might want protection for. Well they only pay 50% of R%26amp;C.

Bottom line is that if you are paying 100% of the premium and not getting it through a major buyer (like an employer), individual policies are rarely worth it.

Having said all that, I know AARP offers a plan and you can look into that.

Anyone know of a good private dental insurance company?

I'm looking for a dental insurance company that is not connected to one's employee benefits...dental work is so costly!! :-p

Anyone know of a good private dental insurance company?
Let me tell you a few thoughts on this.

First, call the dentists in your area and see WHAT THEY TAKE because you could pay for something no one takes. Know what I mean?

Also, read the plan carefully. Sometimes they offer coverage similar to the price you pay for it. What I mean is, if you add up your monthly payments for the insurance, and then subtract the deductable, etc etc etc, it may not be worth signing on for a year.

Lastly, if you can find a dental college in your area, or outside your area, you can often find very cheap rates and long lines. Something to consider depending on what you want done. I had a root canal done at one and the student was so nervous that I was upset, he was very, very careful and kind. I had a tooth pulled at the local overpriced dentist with a degree and he was a jerk who yelled at me and treated me rudely.
Reply:Sadly there is not as good dental insurance. AETNA is about as goo as it gets.
Reply:Basically, you are trying to get free money - something for nothing. Sorry, but it just doesn't exist.

An employer can buy dental insurance for a group, because the insurance company knows not everyone in the group will need much, or some won't go at all. That way, they get paid more in premiums than they have to pay out.

An individual will certainly use the policy (that's why they bought it), so in order to make a profit, the company must charge MORE in premiums than they pay out per year. Makes no sense.

The best thing you can do is put money aside in a savings account for dental work, or find a job that offers dental benefits. An individual dental plan that's worth what it costs doesn't exist because there is no profit in it.

What to look when I am trying to get medical and dental insurance?

In the last couple of months I’ve been trying to get medical and dental insurance.

I don’t have much problem with my health but my wife gets medicine and needs some dental work. In my country everything works different when talking about insurance, I’ve been into a couple of websites, doing some researches but I still have some doubts about what exactly to look and get.

I want an affordable and good insurance so I can help my wife with her medicines and stuff, when she gets pregnant and in the future just in case of emergency.

What to look when I am trying to get medical and dental insurance?
I can't help you so much with medical, but as far as dental insurance, look at what the monthly premium totals for 1 year, vs the maximum payout for 1 year. Most dental insurances have a $1,000 to 1500 max for 1 year, meaning once you have more than that amount of dental work done, they pay no more until January of the next year usually. Many times, for single people, dental insurance is not worth it b/c the monthly premium is very expensive. If you have a family covered on that premium, it is more worth it.

Have you tried talking to a local agent in your area? This is usually a good approach because they will know the insurance companies and their plans well. They should be a great resource for you in your search.

If you want to connect with an agent in your area, complete the form below and one will call you and help get you started. Good luck!

I signed up with them online over 2 years ago for all my dentistry work. They have helped me save thousands of dollars from extractions, root canals, cleanings. I know for a fact that all services are included in the benefits. They had my membership active in 2 hours and was able to use the same day. I am very thankful.

What company offers good dental insurance for an individual?

My new job doesn't offer dental insurance and I want to make sure I am insured.

What company offers good dental insurance for an individual?
Most of the time, the only way to get really good dental coverage is through your employer. When you buy dental insurance as an individual, there are deductibles and co-pays and annual maximums that you need to analyze in order to figure out when and if you will actually save money by having insurance coverage. Some of the premiums I have seen make it almost impossible to realize any positive cash flow from the related policy. I mean, at $60 a month with $100 deductible and $1,000 annual maximum, you will have to take $820 out of your own pocket before you realize one penny of "profit" or net gain from your dental insurance.

Then you have to calculate the effect of co-payements. Check the figures and do the math yourself.

Be cautious about buying or choosing a plan where you do not have any choice about the dentist you can see, because you just might not like the dentist(s) listed on the plan and then you are stuck for a year until you can get out of it.

Be cautious about buying a so-called "dental discount plan," often mentioned on Yahoo!, since they also have restrictive lists and they really are not dental insurance at all. Just be careful and understand what you are buying.

For many people who just can't get good dental insurance, a regular savings plan sort of like a Christmas Club with $20-25 a month deposited into a dedicated account will pay off when you examine the return over a lifetime. You may run way over your savings at first, but once you get your mouth straightened out, your annual expenses should not be more than a couple hundred dollars most of the time.

For major treatment, dental insurance is no great deal anyhow. They limit you to $1,000-1,500 per year, subject you to deductibles, co-pays, etc. Imagine if you were in a car accident and your carrier said, "Yep, it's a total loss. Here's a check for $1,500. Good luck coming up with enough money to buy a new car." Dental "insurance" should usually be considered a payment arrangement where you give your dollars to a large company who holds onto them until you say the secret word and manage to get a few of them back.
Reply:Most do. Look for companies with at least 50 to 100 employees.
Reply:In order to find out which dental insurance is "right" for you, consider several things. Examine what services you will need, or what services do you think you will need? Can you make payments happily with your dentist?

One big factor is knowing what you're willing to accept.......Let's face it, you are not going to exactly everything you want, with nothing that you don't.... Know on which you will compromise in order to get the most service for the fairest rate.

One clue to watch for a bad insurance........any insurance that takes moneyout of your paycheck, while at the same time lists all work you need to have done as "pre-existing", thus refusing to cover it!.............that one happened to me!

Hope this helps you! If your company doesn't offer dental; you can always go to the dental clinic in your county. Even if they have to charge you, it's always on a sliding scale, based on how much you make.
Reply:A good benchmark for your research would be the AARP dental program for people over about 55. If you are younger you can still use the information to compare its pricing and coverage to other company's offerings.

I don't have dental insurance, and I have a tooth ache?
Talk to your dentist to see if they have any kind of payment plan, there is a dental credit card out there called care credit that you can apply through your dentist.
Reply:I know you probably don't want to do this...but you can probably get it pulled for about a hundred bucks. Also, if you are on a fixed income, maybe you could look into getting insurance from the state, like Medicaid.

Does anyone have ehealthplus dental insurance?
I can definitely recommend http://www.everyonebenefits.com/40424269... Thay are the number one dental plan in the country. They are a company that helps people who can't afford retail on their benefits - everything from braces to vision for less than $12/month. There's no hidden fees, copays, deductibles or anything like that at all. They are a very reputable company and will save you thousands. Rather than paying expensive premiums every month, then deductibles and copays, you just pay a small percantage of what the dentist, etc. normally charges out of pocket and that's it! You won't find another company that can beat their plan, especially on braces. Check them out and please email me if you have any questions. They are a member of the Better Business Bureau. Good luck.

Experience with Blue Cross Dental Insurance?

I got a quote for just dental insurance from Blue Cross, has anyone used them before?

Experience with Blue Cross Dental Insurance?
I have a Blue Cross plan and my particular plan covers my regular check ups and some dental work very well. However, you need to be aware that each company has several different plans with different levels of coverage so check out the plan you want to buy. You need to think of more than just the monthly premium but also the deductables and what percentage you will be responsible for and also what level of coverage you will need ie: if you need extensive work or if you are more mature and may need dentures/fixtures soon. You should get a complete layout of the plan before making a commitment. I know its a long process..good luck!
Reply:Make sure you go to a provider for the company. They sometimes cut your benefits amount if you go out of network, they sometimes add more insult by paying a reduced amount, and they sometimes pay nothing if you ar enot at a provider. USe that word when you as provider don't let anyone say I can file that for you. it is a really big diffenrence.
Reply:Blue Cross offers quite a range of plans and policies.

First, be sure your plan is adminstered by Blue Cross and not some 3rd party adminstrator.

Secondly, your policy could be a PPO, HMO or regular indemnity plan, which could effect your copay, depending on whether you are seeing a participating dentist.

If you have any questions, contact your members services on your card.
Reply:Blue cross do offer quite different products. Personally I've never used them before.

My daughter has no dental insurance were she works and she needs at least two root canals.?
Sorry about your daughter's situation.

Hard to advise you from 'across the pond' as we live in the U.K.

Re: DENTAL HEALTH ... We are very lucky to be National Health Service patients, registered with the same dentist since 1978, so that he has kept us on his list (we have become friends in all that time!).

Many people in the U.K. cannot find a dentist that will give them 'free' or 'NHS subsidised' treatment.

Private fees are astronomical to ordinary folk so we tend to revert to visiting Dental (Teaching) Hospitals where the treatment may not be up to Private standards, but is generally adequate, if you don't mind receiving injections and treatment from relatively inexperienced students!

I watched "First Do No Harm" the other night (Meryl Streep / Fred Ward / Seth Adkins) and was, as ever, horrified at what American citizens have to cope with when they are too well off to get 'relief' but not well off enough to be fully insured, or able to meet all their costs with, or without, insurance!

Our N.H.S. is very far from perfect, but it is still, mostly, FREE and based almost entirely on patients' NEEDS, not (at all!) on their MEANS!

Best wishes,

OLLY x

[My family's experiences of the NHS have ranged from O.K. to incredibly good over the past 30 years - we wonder why so many U.K. people can only kick holes in the NHS!]

In turn, your dentist must meet all or any of your dental requirements within an agreed time frame. The problem that these plans have is that the dentists your insurance company chooses can have one clinic, making it difficult for you to meet the appointments. http://www.freewebs.com/getanswer/Dental...

Im looking for a dental insurance not discount plan, that...?

has no limit on yearly cap on services, low monthly premium, and very minimum to pay on the dentist visits? Any such dental insurance out there?

Im looking for a dental insurance not discount plan, that...?
Sorry, but what you are looking for doesn't exist.

You have five options with dental.

1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance. However, it doesn't sound by your question that this is an option.

2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you. Ask around about the school you might be considering, many people report good results and many people will not ever go back to them again. Expect a 10% to 30% discount off of the average cost.

There's a company called AmeriPlan USA. They have a great discount dental referral service. It's not a health insurance, per se, but they have a program that gets you EXCELLENT discounts on braces, etc. (For $11.95 per month) They have a plan where you can get braces for about $2,500.00, but you don't have to pay it all at once. You get to pay over time by paying a certain amount per month. They also have vision, health, prescription, and chiropractic plans as well. I hope this helps you!

"Does anyone know of Dental Insurance for Adults?'?

I am 29 years of age. I would like to get Invisilign done to my teeth. What would be an excellent Dental Insurance for my teeth. It has to be a low rate.

"Does anyone know of Dental Insurance for Adults?'?
Most cosmetic Work is not covered by insurance plans. Your best bet would be to check with local dentists in your area to check costs and see if payment plans are offered. I was a patient of BrightNow Dental ( I believe these offices are located throughout the U.S.) and they offered competative prices and also offer a line of credit ( a dental credit card ). If you are low-income, you could look into your state or county medicaid program, but they may not cover this service either. I know in Ohio, medicaid won't even cover a root canal.
Reply:Does your employer not offer a health/dental insurance plan?

If you are a student, doesn't your school offer one?

In either case, you need to shop not only by price, because a cheap plan may not cover an advanced treatment like "Invisalign" or may only pay 1/3 to1/2 of the price,
Reply:Most insurance won't cover invisalign, orthodontia, implants, veneers, or cosmetic procedures.
Reply:Unfortunately, very few (if any, really) insurance plans would cover braces, as they're not medically necessary- they're considered "cosmetic".

I advise this to other folks asking money-related dentistry questions on this site, but you might consider a dental school, if your area has one. The prices are often around a third the price of a private practice.

I don't have dental insurance what can I do?

I just turned 23 so Im off my mothers dental insurace. What other options do I have? I am currently working part time and insurance is only offered to full time employees.

I don't have dental insurance what can I do?
Take really good care of your teeth until you have insurance again. You can go with far fewer cleanings if you are diligent with your oral hygeine and using effective toothpaste. You also need to maintain a healthy diet. If you have a good relationship with your family dentist, I am sure they will work with you if you get into an emergency situation. Also, you can get good, affordable care at a dental school, or get cleanings through a hygeine program if you have any near you.

My parents don't have dental insurance, we added it up, and it wasn't cost effective for our family
Reply:most dentist are willing to put you on a payment plan, especially if you are already established with them. I would call and ask before the appointment.
Reply:my advice would be to get a job with benefits asap. individual dental insurance is unaffordable to most. if this is not an option i would try to make a payment plan with my dentist (that's what i do, no dental is available for me). most dentists will do this for you (if they've known you a while) they are aware that dental procedures are very expensive. best of luck!
Reply:Dental insurance is usually a rip off anyway because it has an annual maximum of what it will pay. For what you spend on insurance premiums, you could just pay to have your teeth cleaned every 6 months. If you do that, odds are you won't have any serious dental problems anyway. Call around to different dentist offices and see what they charge for a cleaning. I'm assuming you aren't having any problems since you didn't mention any. Pick the most reasonable price, but go with someone you can get a recommendation on as well.
Reply:Let your dentist know ahead of time. Compare prices, shop around, ask questions. Sometimes dental offices are willing to put you on a payment plan. Keep up your part-time job, but continue looking for a full-time with benefits. There is also dental insurance plans you may take out privately, but the are very expensive and have very minimal coverage. Just whatever you do, take care of your teeth :-)
Reply:Rachel,

Is there a dental college in your area? If so, the dental students will be able to clean your teeth and diagnose (and possibly treat) any potential problems, for a greatly reduced fee.

I know several people who have used this resource.
Reply:Don't worry about it to much dental insurance is kind of a scam. Unless you need major dental work done it is not worth the money. If all you are doing is having cleanings twice a year and x-rays once a year, then it will not be much. I know my dentist only charges like 80 for a cleaning and like 130 if and when he does x-rays. So I would just start saving some money. Put back money for a time until you get like 5 thousand in a savings account. That way if you should ever need some serious dental work you will have the money for it. Other wise I would just call your dentist and see how much your cleanings will be and how much the x-ray will coast.

Wisdom teeth, cleaning and dental insurance?

A bit of my wisdom tooth's roots are in the bone. How will it be extracted.....i'm too worried....will it hurt afterwards and take a lot of time to heal?

How can u clean your teeth effectively so that no cavaties are built?

I reside in Chicago, can I get a nice dental plan without the heath insurance?Which one is the best?

Wisdom teeth, cleaning and dental insurance?
You really need to see a dentists soon to relieve you of

your worries. Best dental plan for the Chicago area

is the eHealthPlus membership. There are no waiting

periods so you can get services right away.
Reply:Re: wisdom teeth - all roots are in the bone, you probably refer to impacted wisdom teeth. Oral surgeons do this procedure all the time so there is nothing to worry about. Most suggest gettting it done on a friday so you have the weekend to recover. Yes it will hurt, but not unmanagable. One bit of warning from personal experience- don't take the prescription painkiller (if given) untill absolutely necessary, if at all. They tend to make you sick on the stomach and the last thing you want to be doing is heaving after having wisdom teeth out- that DID hurt.

Re: cleaning - Brush and floss a min of 2 times a day, optimally after every meal. See a dentist for a cleaning 2 times a year. There is no guarantee to be cavity free even with superb hygience, good diet and regular visits to the dentist, but it does reduce your chances of cavities.

Re: insurance. Most individual insurance plans are hard to find, and when you do, they are not great. If you dont have a lot of dental problems, it may be cheaper or you would break even by paying out of pocket for 2 cleanings a year ($200 or so). You may pay more or about the same in your premium and copays.

In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 300 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.

I am looking for dental insurance?

I am looking for dental insurance on line is there any body have a website that I can look up that have a good deal?

I am looking for dental insurance?
Dental PLANS are a farce, most offices do not participate with them. The offices that do are usually the discount chains and the quality of dentistry you receive from them is poor at best.

Dental Insurance varies from state to state, and insurance co. have several different policies, some cover a good portion, some do not.

If you can't afford the dental insurance policy looking for one of those dental plan is throwing away what little money you have.

No dental policy or dental plan that is a "good deal" will pay beans. You are better off to pay out-of-pocket abnd forget the plans and policies
Reply:I have never found any non-group dental insurance but there are discount programs that are very good and have saved me thousands of dollars. Go to http://www.dentalplans.com / and look over the many plans available.
Reply:You don't mention what state you are in. That makes a difference. Keep in mind, dental insurance maximum coverage amount is between $750 - $1500. Major services may be excluded for the first 12 months. Depending on what you need the coverage for, you may be paying more out than your getting in benefit for the first year.
Reply:I have ameriplan dental and I get great savings. The website is http://www.mybestdentalbenefits.com

How much will a dental insurance home depot worker cover? like the average.. for orthodontics?
Well, I live in the US and we have insurance through the hospital where my husband works and it covers 75% on most things and (I think) 2 cleanings a year.

I don't know if that's any help or not. You might be able to find out by calling the Insurance company themselves or your Benefits office.

Is There an Affordable Dental Insurance Plan Available??

I would like to have my teeth worked on however I do not have dental insurance, are there any good ones?

Is There an Affordable Dental Insurance Plan Available??
there are some plans, you have to weigh the cost of the monthly premium aagainst what it pays for. A lot of the policies are worded-" pays 100% of cleanings and preventive-" and then gives you a 80%for fillings, perio work and extractons, 50% for crowns and bridges and dentures. You must ask questions!

100% of what they allow may be only $30 of your $240 cleaningYour part then becomes the remaining 210 and you paid a premium to the insurance company. A lot of individual policies also have a year waiting period or longer for anything other than a cleaning. Some times it is a really good idea to look for a loan that will pay the dentist in full- Care Credit is online and you apply for a credit card that can be used at participating medical. dental, eye docotr etc. I am sure they are other companies as well, and your dentist may have just one he works with , so call ahead. Group insurnance is usually the best through work place for benefits, but even that can get tricky with going to the right provider( a dentist who has agreed to do the work for the allowance fee of the insurance company.. ) If money is an issue always ask for a predetrimination from the dentists. You can call the customer service number yourself on your policy and give them the insurance codes and find out if you are going to owe a ton or not for procedures. Their are sometimes clinics available that do work for a sliding fee- just ask any office you call, or ask your church if they have a connection to a dentist or clinic.
Reply:Yes there are many good ones. How much dental work

do you need done?
Reply:Basically no. Why would you be buying dental insurance if you weren't planning to immediately use it?

What you typically find is a discount program that may disclose and limit the costs of certain procedures, like x-rays and fillings. But it's not insurance and probably won't cover more costly services.

Is there a university with a dental school nearby? If you aren't looking for anything major, they may have a low-cost clinic.

Do you know of a good dental insurance that covers braces?

I need a dental insurance that covers getting braces (in a adult not child). Do you know of one?

Do you know of a good dental insurance that covers braces?
Lots of dental insurances cover orthodontia, most, however, have a lifetime maximum of usually about 2000.00. Private insuraance is expensive, and doesn't usually have a high routine maximum, and no coverage for orthodontia. This is for Canada. Not sure about the US.
Reply:aenta
Reply:I just got a FANTASTIC dental plan through my work via an option with my health insurance, even that one ONLY offers only a discount of 1,000.00 for braces and that is when a dental provider they say is approved for it. I don't know of ANY other insurance that offers ANY coverage on this. It is something that CAN and does have payment plans though.

My daughter had to have them and it cost over $4,000.00 total but I had to put some of the money upfront and the balance was paid at $120.00 a month. Talk to the orthodontist of this type of plan if you don't find insurance to cover it. I would ask about making some type of arrangement.
Reply:Private dental insurance is very expensive and usually doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. But, dental discount plans are very affordable and can save you 30-60% off on the average. Also, most of them cover pre-existing conditions. You can choose from numerous affordable dental discount plans by going to http://bestfitdentalplans.com and keying in your zip code to see which plans are available in your area.

How do you go to the dentist without dental insurance?

I currently have no insurance. I will receive health insurance after the first of the year, but it does not include dental. I am trying to figure out how to go to the dentist without dental insurance.

How do you go to the dentist without dental insurance?
Call and ask the nearest dental office if payments in instalments are accepted, than go and pay by cash, or cheque; if necessary pay the whole amount by a credit card. Also, the dental schools allow their students to practise under supervision and the patients get the low cost treatments. Good luck.
Reply:cash or credit card
Reply:Uhhh....cash works.
Reply:Well, there is no way unless you pay. Welcome to America,.
Reply:For a cleaning see...local community college dental hygiene program. They are looking for patient to help students with hands on cleaning. Its a great cost savings on general cleanings. Also for major dental work...see a major university dental program in your area. All work is being supervised by professional faculty dentists. A huge cost savings for those who do not carry dental insurance.
Reply:Join the crowd. I have always been covered by health insurance and unfortunately it never included dental. I go to the dentist twice a year for regular cleanings. Its really not that bad. If you have to have lots of work done make sure you have a credit card of some kind.
Reply:I am a general Dentist. Nearly half of the patients that come to my office do not have dental insurance.

This does not prevent them from coming and receiving the same excellent care.

The only thing insurance does for you is either cover a portion of your bill, or in some cases negotiate a volume discount with the dentist.

Any dentist will be happy to see someone without insurance, and in fact most of them prefer to deal directly with the individual and not with third party payments.
Reply:Check with dentists in your area and see if any of them will accept a patient without insurance and be willing to take payments. Also, if you have a college in your area that has a dental school or dental hygentist school in it, they love to have people like you come in so they can practice. YOu will either have to pay nothing or very little. Hope this helps.
Reply:You pay full price. You can usually make payments in installments tho'.
Reply:I use Mastercard.
Reply:There are discount plans out there. Try Ameriplan...or similar plans. There is also Care Credit which you apply for like a credit card, if you have good enough credit you will get a pretty good spending limit which you can use at a lot of dentists and doctors offices.
Reply:Many, many insurance plans don't cover dental expenses. I recently had to pay $1000 to cap a tooth %26amp; I borrowed it from my credit union. I finally caved in %26amp; eff Nov 1st now have dental insurance which is costing me $50 per month %26amp; will go up considerably after one year.

So it's cash up front, credit card or loan. Rude awakening, isn't it?
Reply:Just make an appointment and go. You don't need dental insurance to go to the dentist.
Reply:I save money using a dental discount plan. You can check out the following website for more information.

Reply:Cash, payment programs, and a good discount program will work. See below if you have further questions.

If you don't have dental insurance, is there some other way ur saving $$ on dental care?

Because it seems like not too many ppl even have dental insurance these days.

If you don't have dental insurance, is there some other way ur saving $$ on dental care?
The very best way to save on dental expenses is to use a dental school in your area. If you qualify as a patient, dental care is provided at drastically reduced rates. Care is provided by under-graduate or graduate students, under the supervision of medical school professors.

If you still wish to obtain your care from dentists in private practice, I provide links on my site to discount dental cards on my site - http://www.health-insurance-low-cost.net...

You can try a dental school in your area. They often use people to practice procedures on (with an professor present of course).
Reply:There are discount programs, that are not insurance, that you can get. A few dentists we looked into used them, and it discounts each kind of treatment/visit. I don't remember the names of them, but do a search online. There was a big website that compared/contrasted the different dental discount programs, and showed you how much each one was annually. They were pretty cheap (like $100 a year). We never joined bc we went with a dentist who didn't take them.
Reply:yeah-you could put your house up for a second mortgage...as retarded as that sounds, Oxford Insurance Company suggested that to my Mom a few days ago when she said she couldn't afford their premiums....irregardless of what Republicans say, I'd pay higher taxes in a heartbeat if it meant my middle-class Mom and Stepdad could afford to see a dentist without putting their house on the line...ROCK THE VOTE!!!
Reply:As has been mentioned above you can try a dental school...

BUT if you know of a clinic in your area for people without health insurance (Like http://www.howardbrown.org) then you can get a referal from them to a dentist that works on a sliding scale.

I can honestly say that if my Uncle were not a dentist then I wouldn't have seen one in the last 10 years...

No health coverage really stops a lot of the "Standard" stuff...

Good luck!
Reply:There are dental discount plans that you can purchase for as little as $6.95 a year.

They have help me save alot of money on my dentistry work and they have coverage nation wide. Its very affodable with all preexisting conditions accepted.

Good Luck
Reply:You can say that again, and it's one of the most expensive treatments to get these days. Do you know how many people literally don't get regular (and needed) dental care just because of how expensive it is, and because there are not affordable dental insurances out there? I mean, if you don't work for a large corporation that offers free benefits to its employees, your almost crap outta luck. And that's real sad. I had beautiful teeth for the majority of my life. Then, being in my 40's now, my teeth are going downhill because I can't afford "expensive" dental care when the problem arises. Then it gets wors and worse, next thing you know, you gotta get the tooth pulled because it didn't get the care it needed in time. And that's not good - losing your teeth. We need just about every tooth in our head (except wisdom). Trust me, after you've had at least 1 or 2 chewing teeth pulled on each side %26amp; top %26amp; bottom, eating your meal is just NOT the same. You can't chew anymore hardly!!!

We need affordable DENTAL CARE (%26amp; HEALTH CARE) for the struggling %26amp; middle-class AMERICANS ....... Where is our government when WE need them? It would be nice to get some help at HOME, instead of the help going to the other third-world countries, for a change. Now let some Iranians, Iraqs, or Indians come over here from the Middle East, and just look at all the help they get. If most people knew the truth, they would be very angry. They sure get loans a lot easier than we do! And low interest, too. That sucks. There are these dental plans out there, and I've researched a few of them; thank God they do exist. But even if you have one of those plans, it still costs hundreds of dollars for treatments such as crowns, bridges, root canals - the very things that "save" our teeth! Most people are living paycheck to paycheck, and can't afford $200 - 800 for one tooth to be saved, although we want to save it! What are we supposed to do? I've been doing without, and trust me - that's certainly not the answer! I've been looking online for an AFFORDABLE dental "Insurance" (NOT dental savings plan) that pays 80% of the bill, not save me 3% off my bill. That's not near enough savings for struggling Americans.
