Dental school around grand rapids,mi or good dental insurance plan?

my boyfriends does not have dental insurance and has moderate too severe gum disease, I was wondering if there is a dental school around grand rapids,mi that would do the work for a discounted price? I tried looking up one on google but no results. Or does anyone know of a good dental plan that would cover prcedures for severe gum disease with out a waiting period? i know if we dont get it fixed soon he will loose his teeth, thanks.

Dental school around grand rapids,mi or good dental insurance plan?
The dental schools in your area are University of Michigan (Ann Arbor,) Detroit Mercy University (Detroit,) University of Illinois Chicago (Chicago,) and Marquette University (Milwaukee.) Dental schools are cheaper than private practice, but do take longer. I hope one of these are convenient for you.
Reply:Hi! I know of a great company that offers a dental discount plan. They will save your boyfriend up to 80% off (but most realistically about 50%) Some services are 80% discounted though...The best part is that there is no deductible, and no waiting period, so he can enroll tommorrow, and then go to a participating provider the same day! All he needs to do is write down the member number he is given upon enrollment. (You will get an actual card in the mail, but you dont have to wait for it to come before he goes to the dentist) Also, you can do a provider search to find the closest dentist to you...There are over 150,000 dentists, in every state, so there should be one within 30 miles of your town. Also, the plans are just $11.95/mo for an individual, so its super affordable! You also get a discount on prescriptions, vision, and chiropractic as part of the plan, FREE of charge! It is great... I saved over $40 the first month on just 2 of my sons prescriptions! If you are interested, please just send me a quick email and I will give you the website. I am afraid that if I post it here, that I will get flagged! ;0( Just send me an email though, and you can get hooked up tonight or tommorrow! Thanks, Stacy

Looking for individual dental insurance?

I'm trying to find an affordable good dental insurance company. I've looked online quite a bit and can only find insurance with a 6 mos waiting period or a "dental plan" that you pay like $100 a year for a discount which seem useles. I'm 30 and live in Ohio if that makes any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for individual dental insurance?
You will not find an individual dental plan without a waiting period. The 6 month wait is for minor procedures, most also have an 18 month wait for major procedures such as a root canal.

You have four options with dental.

1. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you.

2. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans.

3. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health %26amp; dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes... concerning these plans.

4. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404.

I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo... specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.
Reply:In my experience, there is no such thing as affordable dental insurance. If you do not have a plan that you get through your employer, don't bother to look. If you find something, it is quite expensive, and the insurance company has a big deductible (which you have to pay before ins. kicks in) and/or do not pay well on procedures. You would be better off socking money away into an account that collects interest and do not touch it unless you need dental work. There are discount plans, but you usually cannot find dentist close by you. And if do find one close by, just remember, you get what you pay for and in my honest opinion; I have a high regard for my teeth. I'm in Texas, and there just are not many independent dental policies around that the premiums are worth paying.
Reply:There is a dental program that has no waiting period and gives great savings.

If you cannot get dental insurance at your work, this is the best alternative. It is very affordable too.

I am looking up to find dental coverage for myself and came across this. I never used it so I don't know how well it is. BUT I hope that it is of some use for you. You don't know unless you apply for it and see what they end up telling you about this.

Finally . . . An affordable Dental Benefits Plan* that allows you to receive DISCOUNTED Individual DENTAL Insurance!

The MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company dental plans offer:

NO DEDUCTIBLE and NO WAITING PERIOD for preventive services

ORTHODONTIA coverage - optional coverage under age 19

The ability to choose ANY DENTIST you want

A LOW $50 DEDUCTIBLE for all other services (Restorative, Oral Surgery, Periodontics, etc.) Then the plan pays on a scheduled basis.1

These insurance plans and benefits may vary by state, click here* for more information.

1All plans are underwritten by The MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company. Administrative Office: North Richland Hills, TX. This is a summary of benefits for informational purposes only. Contact the company for complete description of benefits and any restrictions, exclusions and limitations that apply. Association Group plans require Association membership. MEGA is licensed in all states except NY. The company’s market and plan availability varies by state.

Edit: I just saw the other part of your inquiry and you list that you have delta and they cover it some. That is more than others do in general. I have had braces and my daughter needed them as well, I had to make a payment plan and pay 1/2 upfront for her's before they would do any work then. If you started the work with an orthodontist already and need to switch to another one due to insurance reasons there aren't any I found or ran across that would do work in this that another orthodontist started on already. Be sure you like the work of the one that you choose or chose to have do this.
Reply:You might want to try a dental discount plan. The savings and costs depend on your zip code. Go to http://www.lowpriceddentalplans.com to compare different plans.

What is the best dental insurance?

Which is the better dental insurance ,Bluecross/bluesheild or Delta Dental?Have you used these dental insurances before?

What is the best dental insurance?
We use Delta; however, we were told by our state provider of our pension benefit that both offered identical coverage here. From what I was able to research, and from conversation with my dentist's billing/collections clerk who does all the filing, she says that the only difference she can see is that Delta pays a few days sooner than BC/BS.
Reply:brushing and flossing Incorporated lol "On a more serious note bluecross/bluesheild"
Reply:There is no way to answer this question. Both of these companies offer a variety of plans according to what the employer spends. Either one or both could be good, fair, or poor.

If you have a choice, take the information to your regular dentist and ask if they accept those plans and if they are "preferred providers" for either.

It is not the insurance company that determins what is covered, it is the employer who pays for the plan.
Reply:Jewel, If you told us what criteria you have for determining

what is better, we could better help you. Please clarify.

How can I purchase dental insurance for myself? I'm having a hard time understanding how!?

I want a dental insurance that will pay a good percentage toward fillings, root canals, extractions, and crowns. I am self-employed. Please help! I have never purchased dental insurance and the web search confused me. I also want to make sure there is no waiting period before I can use the benefits, because I need dental work as soon as possible.

Beware of dental discount programs on the net though. Good luck!

DENTAL EMERGENCY...but no insurance...plz help???

So I have no dental insurance %26amp; I got this absess on my gum that hurts like I just got punched in the jaw...I don't know where to go or what to do? Please any advice??? I live in Reno NV %26amp; I have no clue if there are any services that can/will help with emergency dental situations?

DENTAL EMERGENCY...but no insurance...plz help???
Wow, I wish I had seen your question earlier. If you have not YOU NEED TO BE SEEN ASAP. Rinse with peroxide every hour. And if you are worried about $$ go to HAWC clinic , it is on wells avenue and it is free/low cost they will help you no matter (but it is nice).....
Reply:You could just go to the Washoe ER. All hospitals have on-call Dentists or Oral Surgeons for dental emergencies, and if it warrants it, the on call physicians will call them for you or send you to a local dentist who will aide you.

Good Luck!

Also, in the interest of options, the loan company I used for my wife's dental care was called "Dental Care, Yes." I do not work for them, but I have an account with them and have been satisfied with their service and reasonable rates (mine is 11.99%)

http://www.dentalcareyes.com/
Reply:If you call an oral surgeon.. that is where you will end up in the long run and if it is an abcess they will need to open it up and drain it.. they will take care of it for you and work with you as far as your financials go. Don't wait ! I worked for an oral surgeon and if you put it off the abcess can be toxic and make you sick.
Reply:You need to go to the dentist asap! If you have an abscess you could go septic really quick and then your life could be in danger. If you explain to the dentist that you don't have insurance they will be receptive to setup a payment plan.

You have a medical emergency go to a dentist right away!
Reply:do you have a dental school near by. They usually have clinics or have discounts because it is a learning experience for the students.
Reply:If you are reasonably credit worthy here is a link to a card that is easy to get and is used just for medical and dental care- most dentists accept it too.

http://www.carecredit.com/

No I don't work for them, I have used the card in the past though for dental emergencies, you can apply online and if approved they give you a card number and credit limit within seconds, that you can use right away at a dentist office

They can even tell you what dentists in the area you live, accept the card.
Reply:http://TheBestBenefitsPlus.com

I have had an abscess and I have also used Care Credit at the chiropractor. The credit card ended up charging me a ridiculous amount of interest.

Abscesses need to be taken care of quickly (as if you had a choice anyway, with all that pain.)

Check out the link above. I can get you a discount dental plan and you can get your member # immediately. We can check the providers in your area and get it done! I am a broker and I think that the pain you probably have is the worst that I have ever felt and I have chronic back pain!

The plan is $20/mo. and covers chiropractic, vision and prescription as well as dental. Contact me with questions. Good luck!

Hi im looking for an affordable, dental insurance because it seems as though every where i look i can't get help because i'm not considered "needy". And most health insurances have huge monthly payments without really any coverage. I think i need to get my wisdom teeth pulled and i have several cavities so if anyone can give any information on good dental coverage or even reasonable dentists' prices in san antonio, TX it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

I signed up with them online over 3 years ago for all my dentistry work without age limits for almost the same reason as you. They have helped me save thousands of dollars from extractions, root canals, cleanings. I know for a fact that all services are included especially orthodontics and dentures in the benefits. They had my membership active in 2 hours and was able to use the same day. I am very thankful that I found them. Im almost %99.9 certain that your area is covered. Check to see if they are in your area.

Good Luck. Hope this helps

How does dental insurance work if you buy it yourself, not thru an employer?

I can't get dental insurance and I was wondering how much it cost's to pay for it yourself. I need some work done to my teeth and I would figure that it will be expensive. If I just buy it and then go and get like 3000 dollars in work done will it cover the cost's?

How does dental insurance work if you buy it yourself, not thru an employer?
You need to talk to an insurance agent and find out what policies s/he can find you that will cover the work you need to have done at a premium you can afford. No other way to know. until you get some quotes and read the policies. (Read the policy before you sign.)

Reply:I'm sorry to say, there are no good individual dental plans. An insurance company must take in more in premiums than they pay out per year to be profitable. They can do this in a group, but it makes no sense to offer coverage for an individual.

Beware of so-called "dental discount plans." The state of Montana sued Ameriplan and won on charges of insurance fraud. Many dentists don't take these plans, and the ones that do often "bait and switch" in order to make up for deep discounts.

You'd be better off finding a financing plan such as Dental Fee Plan or Care Credit.

Dental Insurance Question?

My husband and I are shopping for dental insurance. Which ones are good and which ones should we avoid?

Dental Insurance Question?
I found that when I was working we were offered dental insurance plans that were worthless. They had so many limitations that I finally cancelled and had none. I found that having a dental discount plan was much better, as there are no limits, no waiting period and there is no paperwork. I pay when I go and the cost is much less than I paid for the expensive insurance. My plan is only $19 a month and includes a vision plan, where I save a lot on my contacts, a chiropractic plan and discount prescription. This is SO much less than I paid just for the dental insurance and I really feel it is worth it.
Reply:Dental plans vary A LOT in quality for individuals. Many are simply discount plans while others provide decent coverage. It is HARD to find those decent plans.

This will also vary depending on your state and metro area. Hook up with a full-time health agent to help you in your state. Try NAHU.org to find a local health agent who is part of their national association of professionals.

Do insurance companies only cover for the dental offices they assign you to?

Our dental insurance company is Benefits Insurance Unlimited or smething like that. It "assigned" us to SmileCare. They have an ortho there, but my mom wants me to get my braces done elsewhere my aunt reccommended. Will the dental insurance benefits only apply at the SmileCare they assigned us, or will it also apply at the other place we want to go to to get my braces done? Thanks.

Do insurance companies only cover for the dental offices they assign you to?
Oh, no, the benefits they state will ONLY apply to the SmileCare, or other in network provider.

There MIGHT be out of network benefits elsewhere, or there might be NO out of network benefits. But you can, at the very least, count on paying a lot more somewhere else.
Reply:You should call the local dentist that IS supported and ask if your insurance will include another local orthodonist.

Dental Insurance question?

My husband has an extra tooth b.t his front tooth and his canine. He went to a detist when he was a teen but they said that the root went up then over then back up so it would be painful to take it out and the gap may or may now grow back. He decided not to do it. He wants it done now but only if the gap will grow back. He has somewhat crooked teeth, needs a few good cleaning of his teeth. His top front teeth are just a little to long and they need to be straight with hisother teeth,

Now my question..

we have no dental insurance...should we get it..would we save or spend more? thanks

Dental Insurance question?
I am a patient finance manager. Dental insurance and dental necessity have nothing to do with each other. Most plans cover very little and are designed to pay higher amounts toward preventative things like exams and cleanings and little or nothing toward major things. My rule of thumb is if it doesn't come through a group (employer) or it tells you who to see don't get it. Also most insurance plans have a max of $1000 per year and it has been that same max since the 50s yet there are plans that cost more then $1000 a year. Many of the things you are explaining probably aren't even covered! You will probably spend a lot more buying personal dental insurance then you would ever see paid out of it.
Reply:call your dentist or look up care net, it is a credit card for dental or medical only. it is intrest free for 1 year.
Reply:Most likely the gap left between his teeth will not close and straighten on its own. He would probably have to see an oral surgeon to have something like this removed. At this age he would need braces in order to straighten and close this space after surgery. However, that would be only after the cleaning and fixing of all other teeth to make sure he is a candidate for braces. His teeth are well set so they are not going to just move greatly after having this tooth out. Most dental insurances are nto worth the money people pay for them. What you need to look at is how much it will cost you over a 1 year period vs how much the maximum that the policy pays out in 1 year. Most dental insurances policies pay only $1000 to 1500 dollars a year with you paying almost the exact same amount in that year. Plus, they do not cover the full amount on most dental procedures. Most people would do better to save that money over the course of a year. Most dentist offices now offer outside financial payment plans such as CareCredit that if you are approved offer no interest for 1 year, but after the year hit you with high interest.
Reply:It is really tough to know how extensive his treatment would need to be without seeing him.

As far as insurance, if it can be obtained through work it may very well help, depending on the provisions of the plan--and they're all different. As for purchasing insurance as an individual, it's almost always a bad idea.

Dental insurance? I need to get 3 wisdom teeth taken out but i cant afford it.?

whats the best and most affordable dental insurance that would cover this in so cal?

Dental insurance? I need to get 3 wisdom teeth taken out but i cant afford it.?
Hi. You might want to try http://www.apdiscounts.com They are not insurance but better because there are no waiting periods, no deductibles, no limits. For 1 person its only $11.95/month and for an entire family its $19.95/month. Go here or on the website to see what providers are in your area. http://providersearch.ameriplanhealth.co... I have not personally used the dental but I have used the medical in which I ended up in the hospital for 2 days and they took $2000.00 of my hospital bill. The medical is $49.95-59.95/month and the dental is FREE with the medical. Hope this helps. Katherine.
Reply:sometimes medical insurance will cover wisdom teeth removal; it depends if they're impacted or not.....

if you have medical insurance; call them once and check if they provide coverage for wisdom teeth removal.
Reply:Have you also looked into whether the local dental schools (reputable ones please) offer their services at reduced prices or even for free? They used to (haven't needed to use them since I my jobs have offered dental plans). However, it means you'd be worked on by dental students (not complete newbies but they are still learning) being supervised by experienced dentist professors.
Reply:Assuming you get a dental insurance (it's difficult to get a dental insurance unless your employer provides it) you still can't get your wisdom tooth pulled out immediately. You need to wait from 6 months to 12 months before you can claim treatment costs from most dental insurance policies.

A wiser move might be to get a dental plan closer to your local area with local dentists participating in it. They will offer discounts on your treatment costs. So, you will be paying lesser than what the dentist usually charges.

If you are really short of money then go to a local dental school that needs patients and get your treatment for almost free. As someone has mentioned check that the dental school has good credentials.

Dental Insurance wont cover surgery?

I have a really bad cavity on my upper right wisdom tooth that needs to be taken out, but the oral surgeon that I want to do the surgery does not particapate with my Dental Insurance. What can I do? I can not afford to pay out-of -pocket.

Dental Insurance wont cover surgery?
See if they will accept assignment of benefits from you (so the payment goes directly to them). Call your insurance company and find out approximately how much they will cover, and you pay the difference up front. (You'll need to get the procedure codes from the office). Once the payment is received from the insurance company, if you still owe a balance you will be billed for it.

Orrrrrrrrrr talk to others that have used one of the surgeons that do participate in your plan, but remember that just because they participate, it doesn't mean you will not have any out-of-pocket expenses.

Good luck!
Reply:Look for another surgeon that participated in your Dental Insurance. Or get a new job that offers a dental insurance program that your desired surgeon participated in?
Reply:Look for another Oral Surgeon that does take your insurance or look for a General Dentist that takes out wisdom teeth also. Call your insurance and ask them what other Oral Surgeons are in-network and if they are out of network will the ins. cover a portion of costs. If you are not paranoid about the dentist and do not require conscious sedation and your wisdom tooth is coming out vertically...then a General Dentist may be able to take it out for you.

My father needs dental implants but insurance doesn't cover it. What to do?

My father is 57 and needs dental implants, but his dental insurance company doesn't cover implants. And there is no way to pay out of pocket, several thousands of dollars for implants.

it is a serious problem because he has difficulty chewing food. I agree he may not have been careful in caring for teeth when he was teenager and young during the 60's and early 70's. But for the last 20 to 25 years he has been taking good care of teeth.

Why must a person be punished for his past actions, instead of being provided help?

What is the point of health insurance if they will refuse to cover necessary health expenses? Teeth are important to a person's well being.

Most of the CEO's of such insurance companies make several millions of dollars themselves, but refuse to pay few thousand dollars for patient who needs serious help.

When will there be a change in health care?

My father needs dental implants but insurance doesn't cover it. What to do?
Most insurance companies do not cover dental implants. However, most insurance companies will help you pay for crowns and bridges or dentures.

If your father does not have any dental insurance, a social worker could be of help. He/she will be able to connect him with various community supports and resources. For example, a free dental clinic.

The social worker will also be aware of government policies and programs that may be of use to your father.
Reply:I'm a dentist.

If your father is 57, I'm going to assume that you're at least 18 years old--or close to it.

You're old enough to know better than to make such a complaint. Your father isn't being punished. He's simply paying for his own mistakes. It's not anyone else's responsibility to help him.

And on top of that, your father doesn't NEED implants. That's like me saying, "Oh, woe is me, I don't have money to buy a car. Why won't someone donate a Rolls Royce so I can drive to work?"

Your father, if he does a little research, could find a doctor who could make him a set of dentures for under $2000.

Reply:There are many options for replacing missing teeth, with implants being the most costly. I bet your dad's dental insurance would cover a percentage of a removable partial denture or a full set of dentures if he doesn't have any teeth. A partial is not as nice as implants, but isn't something to chew on that you could afford better than nothing??
Reply:I'm also 57 and I'm getting implants. I will be paying 35,000. I have a good portion of it, but I'm borrowing the rest. Tell him to ask his prosthedontist for another option. He would have the post put in and then an open pallet denture would be made that would snap into the post. The denture would never move and he would be able to eat again. Its a cheaper way of going. Also call around, all surgeons have different prices for the post and crowns. Ask about payment plans. They will help. I'm going through the same thing but I've done a ton of research on line and on the phone. He needs to see a perodontist or a prosthodontist. Don't go to a regular denist for implant post. Make sure they have done alot of these and are Board Certified in the field. Good luck
Reply:His best bet is to get a discount dental plan, but not one that charges monthly fees. There are several companies out there that provide coverage for a yearly fee of less than $100. It's not the same as insurance, but it will help reduce his out of pocket expenses.
Reply:I have tried it myself, here is some good informations.http://insurance.online-assistant.info/c...
Reply:Dental implant surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.

They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Dental Insurance - Coordination of benefits?

If I sign my wife and I up with my employer, $1500 max for my wife, and she also signs up for dental insurance through her employer, $1000 max for the year, would it be worth it?

She needs to have a tooth extracted, and will need either a bridge or an implant, which are covered at 50%. Would this effectively make it paid for at 100% through COB?

Dental Insurance - Coordination of benefits?
Best answer is yes, but read the plans very carefully...they can be tricky. Also, ask your dentist how much the total charges will be. They may be less than you are thinking. Don't forget to figure in your deductibles and co pays.
Reply:not worth the effort
Reply:most dental providers will not bill secondary ins companies. most states will make her bill her insurance first and then you can bill yours. if there is a deductable on your plan it would not be worth. but will be better than one or no coverage.good luck
Reply:It would make sense to have both of the insurances as it will help out with costs. Many times you would have no copay at all. One thing to be careful about. Many insurances do have clauses so they do not have to pay out the money. Some of them require you to have the insurance for a certain period of time before they will cover major work. Many insurance will not cover the bridge if a tooth is missing on the other side of the mouth. Also, many insurances will not cover the bridge if the tooth was taken out prior to receiving this insurance, existing condition clause. I hope this helps you. Most of the time it is best to have the duel insurances, just do not assume. My office will bill both insurance companies and I believe many others will also.
Reply:You might find out that either one of your employers will disqualify you from one of their group plans if you already have insurance through another. Contact your HR department to find out! You should look into Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA's) if either one of your employers offers it. They are funds in which you can have your employer deduct money from your paycheck on a before tax basis for you to use to pay for your out-of -pocket medical expenses, co-payments, and other health related expenses such as eyeglasses. You can chose how much you with hold from your check (paid weekly, the total you specify divided by 52) Periodically you fill out a claim form with receipts for your covered expenses. The savings come from not paying taxes on this money, which can save you hundreds of dollars over the course of a year and more if you are planning expense procedures. The catch is that you must submit paperwork to be reimbursed and you must use all of the money that you set aside in that given calendar year, so be careful estimating what you medical expenses are going to be. Also there are some rules about what qualifies as a medical expense, for instance prescriptions are covered but vitamins are not. Get a full list of from your HR department of what qualifies and what doesn't to be safe.

Dental insurance providers with orthodontist coverage?

I currently have MetLife Dental which does not inlcude orthodontist coverage. I went to an orthodonitst and was advised to get invisalign to keep my teeth from gapping. Two years ago, I had molding applied to my two front teeth to close the gap and it worked and was wonderful. However, my teeth are gapping apart again. The orthodontist stated that Invisalign is the best alternative to permanently close and stop the gapping because my teeth are very straight and do not have an overbite.

Is there any insurance provider who offers orthodonist coverage to adults or do you know of any discounts available?

Dental insurance providers with orthodontist coverage?
Many MetLife Dental plans cover ortho. When your employer buys the package, they can select whether or not to add that benefit.

Most often, it is not the insurance provider, but the employer who decides what is or is not covered. Ask your HR person, or whoever administers your health plan.
Reply:Coverage varies from company to company and even plan to plan within the same company. Check and see if an ortho rider can be added to your existing coverage. Good luck with your smile!

Help with the right dental insurance for me?

I need some sort of dental insurance, just to get me in the door to see the dentist b/c no one will see me without insurance, and i need 2 root canals asap....i have never gotten any type of dental insurance before and i just need some reccomondations on companies that are cheap and resonable, and quick ...thanks

Help with the right dental insurance for me?
You can have dental insurance and still have to pay a lot out of pocket for the root canals. Most of the time they will pay around 50%.
Reply:Dentists will gladly see patients with or without insurance. If you have no insurance, they will expect some sort of payment - just like at the supermarket.

Purchasing individual dental insurance that covers more than you pay for it is unrealistic. How would the insurance company make any money if they pay out more than you pay in premiums? This can only be done in a group plan, were some people won't use the coverage.

Ask about payment plans or outside financing. If these are not good options for you, consider a dental school or a community clinic that figures fees on a sliding scale depending on your income..

Reply:dental insurance is not cheap. A personal one, not through a work place, usually--- is not worth the purchase price. The premium is more tha the benfit. What you are looking for- A policy that has benefits more than the premium.

40 a month x12 equal 480. The cost of a cleaning is 100 without xrays. 200- 240 with xrays. If you go once for a cleaning exam, and xrays- you save 200-240.

Some policies have a limit one what you can do for 12 months, some for 36 months. example- if you need a crown or a root canal , it is not covered for a year.

They word it- paid at 50% of ucr or a fee schedule.

The fee schedule can go like this.- they pay 100% of your cleaning based on their fee schedule. Your cleaning is 200. they allow 10. you owe 190 plus your premium to the insurance company. You need a rootcanal. They pay 50%

of UCR. (usual and customary- only they pick what that is.)

the dentists charges 800 for a molar root canal. You think okay I owe 400---- but they have UCR for a root canal at 100. they pay half of a 100or 50 and you owe 750. PLUS your deductable once. ie 50 deductible. You may qualify for governmant benefits- medicall medical and dental.. There may be a Church that has a health clinic. Lots of the Catholic churches run free clinics. Call your church and ask- call a medical office and ask. People in the business usually know where you can go for free.

How do I get my dental insurance to process/pay my claim?

I have dental insurance through WellPoint Dental Services. I needed a dental procedure and my dentist filed it and I received an approval/precertification from WellPoint in the mail. It said the insurance would pay $204 of the procedure. I had the procedure 4/25/2007. I paid my dentist in full (that's how he does it) and have been trying to collect the $204 ever since. I have called the insurance co and am always told it is in process. I have written 2 letters with a copy of the precertification to the address on my card and have had no response. On 7/18/2997, a rep said that it had been misfiled, but it would be sent to claims immediately and that all the necessary info was there. I have received no response to my letters, no check. What should I do now?? That procedure was $1000 and I could really use the $204. Thanks for any help!

How do I get my dental insurance to process/pay my claim?
Write a polite letter of complaint to the Commissioner of Insurance for your state - at your state capital. Copy to your insurance company's Vice President of Health Insurance Claims - or some similar person. The insurance company is required to respond to the commissioner within 30 days. Every day after 30 that they are late, costs them $. You should get a prompt response. But, remember to be polite. You will still have the same insurance company. Most claim adjusters are over worked but real people.
Reply:I would write a letter to your state insurance department - including the dates, etc, and file a complaint. And carbon copy in Wellpoint.

That should kick them into gear.

Dental Insurance Plans in North Dakota?

I live in North Dakota and I am looking for a Good Dental Insurance Plan. Can anyone help me. Thanks

Dental Insurance Plans in North Dakota?
hey Anna,

I am on a really great dental plan that has no waiting periods. You can see any dentist you want, and there is a $100 deductible that you only have to meet once, not every year. It is a REALLY good plan, and I did a lot of research on indemnity plans and discount plans, which turned out to cost more than they were worth. This is a very comprehensive, major dental plan and it is CHEAP. you can check it out at http://www.BestForLessDental.com and see for yourself. If you decide to sign up, you can do it right online! Good luck to you!

Vision and dental insurance?

Can anyone tell me where I can look for vision and dental insurance in Illinois? Please do not tell me Delta Dental, as I currently have Delta Dental and they do not cover anything except a cleaning and this is through my employer. Someone help.

Vision and dental insurance?
Unless you have a bad mouth, dental insurance isn't worth the $$. By the time you pay the monthly premiums, in a year you are behind what a regular doc would charge for cleaning, exams, x-rays, crowns, etc.
Reply:It is very difficult to purchase Dental and Vison care on an individual basis. By far your best option is to get it as part of an association. For example, Sams Club has a Dental Insurance available as part of their membership package.

http://www.samsclubmemberservices.com/Em...
Reply:You have five options with dental.

1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance.

2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you.

Currently my gf has no type of insurance. She just started a new job, but it will be 3 months before she is able to get on the companies insurance. I am looking for some opinions on some dental insurance you guys use.

I took a look at Ameriplan and dentalplans.com, but apparently those are just mlm scams and the discounts are not that great. Thanks for any help.

Looking for Dental Insurance for GF?
You are correct about Ameriplan and other "dental discount plans" as they are not regulated and if you are unsatisfied, you have no recourse.

A routine exam and cleaning should not cost more than $200 at a private practice, and could be less at a community dental clinic. Call the local dental society to ask about low cost dental services.

This should tide her over until her insurance becomes active in 3 months.

There are no reasonable individual dental plans. Unfortunately, in the US, healthcare is only available to the imporverished, or those who are well-employed.

Also I can't seem to find and info on Oral Surgery coverage from the company...can you help...

AIG Insurance (Dental)?
All insurance companies, including AIG Insurance, offer many different levels of insurance coverage and many different plans. You don't even state which country you are in, since there are plans offered in both US and Canada, and they are different.

AIG offers full dental plans, PPO plans, a la carte plans, and different plans according to group, etc. I have attached a link to some of their plans to show you that there are all different levels offered. Maybe yours is in here somewhere.

Why is the co-pay for dental insurance more expensive than health insurance?

I compared the co pays on several reputable dental insurance companies and it is very expensive. Many things are not covered, even with the best dental insurance. Health insurance is usually a 10 dollar co pay for primary physicians and a 35-50 dollar co pay for specialty physicians. Is there any reason why dental insurance co pay is as expensive as it is?

Why is the co-pay for dental insurance more expensive than health insurance?
Actually, the only time the copays are so low for health insurance is when you're dealing with those high-dollar plans provided by a lot of employers. (At least those are the types of plans that were provided be employers in the past; that's changing significantly because of the cost involved.) Trust me, these are FAR from the "norm."

As for dental insurance, the fact is that there are nearly as many organized networks for dental providers as there are for medical providers (where belonging to as many networks as possible is the best way to ensure you keep new clients coming in to your practice.) Dental insurance, by comparison to what you pay for medical coverage (particularly of the variety you mention) is also CHEAP. And I don't know very many people who would pay triple the price for dental insurance so they could get the $10 copay. In the end, it's really that simple.
Reply:You only go to the dentist one or twice a year if you don't have any problems, and even if you do have a problem, you only go a few times more than that. I'd rather pay 10 dollars for a physician because I go there more often than I do the dentist.

Also, dental care is really, really expensive, and it's hard for dental insurance companies to make money because people put the dentist last on their list of places to go unless they're in unbearable agony.

Braces cost $5,000 and up where I live, and even a regular teeth cleaning costs three figures. We have a good friend who is a dentist, and he has a hard time earning a living because people put off going, and when they do come they don't like to have any work done anyway.

I'm sure there are many other reasons for the copays being so high, but this is just my experience.
Reply:Because the cost of dental insurance is usually so low....
Reply:Generally, people don't buy dental insurance unless they are going to have extensive work done so it's a heavily used product. Unlike medical, people can put off having dental work done (except emergencies) so it's easier to plan to be insured when it's needed and that throws off the "unknown" that is usually a part of insurance purchases. So, it's priced and copays set with a little more cost shifted to the consumer.
Reply:Generally speaking people go to the dentist more than they do a general doctor. Most dental plans cover 2 visits a year. I have not been to the docter in over 2 years.
Reply:You're wrong about medical copays. Some are still $10, but most copays have been getting higher and higher. Currently, I'm paying a $25 copay, and I have excellent health insurance.

Typically there are no "copays" with dental coverage. You would be covered at 100% for preventative services, with no deductible. Basic restorative services are subject to deductible (usually around $50) and then paid at 80%, so you owe the remaining 20%. Major services are also subject to deductible, and then payable at 50%.

My dental insurance wont cover braces...need to find a discount plan?
Discount dental plans are a joke.

Orthodontists have fixed costs - brackets and wires are expensive. So is the cost of additional training necessary to move teeth. Why would a specialist provide services for a fraction of what they normally charge? What will they do for full-paying patients that they won't do for a discount patient?

Ask about payment plans, cash discounts, etc. Stay away from multi-level schemes such as Ameriplan.
Reply:While there may be a plan out there, you may be able to do even better. Call the orthodontist you are wanting to work with and find out if they offer a payment plan, most do. Then ask how much braces typically run and what the payment will likely be. Finally, explain (only if true) that the cost is just slightly out reach for your family. Ask if they will consider a reduction in fees in return for a dedicated patient that can give them great references. It doesn't hurt to ask. The fact they don't have to file insurance, should help them lower their cost. Heck - ask for the same rate as the insurance folks get.
Reply:I have Ameriplan Dental and I have received great discounts. It is not a scheme as the previous poster said. Why would reputable dentists be associated with a company that is a scheme?

The website is http://www.mybestdentalbenefits.com if you are interested.
Reply:Comfort Dental. I think they have offices all over the country, and I have found their prices in many cases to be MORE AFFORDABLE than with insurance. They offer a plan called the Gold Plan (which can be purchased for $12 a month) that gives you access to their member rates on everything.

An example: I have poor gums and about 5 years ago I had a procedure called "Scaling %26amp; Planning" performed. At that time I DID have insurance, and my total out of pocket cost was $1000. I just had the same procedure done at my Comfort Dental office for $440.

They have a braces program too, $129 / month for adults with no downpayment. I guess those rates might vary depending on where you live.

Discount dental insurance?

Hello, I am looking into purchasing discount dental insurance for 20 a month for me and my husband. Thing is we need ALOT done. He needs 3 root canals, deep cleaning and a few cavities, i need 6 cavities and a deep cleaning. We only have about 100 a week left over after bills and need to figure something out? Does anyone have any expierence with this? I went on the site and found dentists in my area and how much things cost if you go to that dentist w/ this plan, and things are pretty cheap, but how do i know thats real, and how do i ask for a "exam" and an estimate? is that possible to both go in and get the free exam and xrays for new patients and then ask for an estimate w/ this insurance and let them get back to me? i really have no clue how to go about this. We really need this stuff done.

Discount dental insurance?
First, relax! Most dental problems are not emergencies. So you can calmly look at your options and decide what is best for you. Read on...

Most employers provide some kind of dental cover for their employees. Dental Insurance, dental reimbursement plans, group plans etc. are some of types of dental cover provided by employers. If you have one of these then most of your dental costs will be covered under them and you need to pay only a percentage of the costs. I assume you and your husband DO NOT have any of these types of dental cover.

The cheapest option for you right now is to find a dental school near you and get registered there. The students at the dental school are always in need of patients to learn their craft. So, find out if they are willing to take you as patients. You will be worked on by student dentists and the outcome may not be great but you can expect reasonable amount of care as they will be supervised by their teachers.

But if you want good quality dental care then an option you can explore is getting dental discount plans - these are not dental insurance remember - they are kind of discount clubs. The company offering the discount dental plan negotiates a deal with dentists around the country to offer their dental services at lower costs then it would normally cost. The whole thing is upfront. That is you know how much you have to pay for your dental treatment.

For example: Here's a sample Actual You Pay

Root Canal Treatment - Front Tooth $542 $336

Root Canal Treatment - Bicuspid $646 $403

Root Canal Treatment - Molar $829 $491

What you could do is save $100 left every week and after you have accumulated say 400 dollars at the end of month get one root canal treated. That way at the end of the year you could get most of dental treatment done.

What you can also do is visit the dentists around your area and get an estimate for the overall dental treatment for both of you. You could outline your position to them and ask them to give you an overall plan so you can plan your treatment over the course of a year or two.

Most dental treatments are not an emergency so you can spread out your costs over a year or two. Ask your dentist to priortize your treatment needs. That way you will be able to get the most needed treatment first.

I know you can't put all your money into getting dental treatment alone. Several other emergencies will crop up claiming your savings. But don't worry things will work out with a little bit of planning and care. Try a combination of dental school and discount dental insurance to make the most of what you have.

All the best!
Reply:do it yorself!
Reply:if you live close to a dental school... call the school and see if any students still need patients for board exams. they will be able to provide you with cheaper dental service but you will have to show up at the time of their exams.

some dental insurance will only allow you to deduct major surgery (like root canals) after you are with the plan for 3 or 6 months or so, so it is important to watch that one out.

a great place to get dental insurance and just check the different price/options is EHealthInsurance.

another great place to search discount dental place is SearchAllDeals, just start with a search term like "discount dental insurance".
Reply:You should know some things about discount dental plans:

First of all, they are NOT insurance. You are paying for a list of dentists who agree to discount their fees. You usually have to pay at time of service to receive the discount - no credit will be extended.

Secondly, these plans are sold by multi-level marketing. This means that in order to make money, the sellers depend to getting others to sell under them, and so on. There is no profit in the product itself, only in building a pyramid of others.

Third, most dentists operate on an overhead factor of 65% to 75%. That means they CANNOT provide full service and discount their fees by 50%. It's just not possible. Either they will sell you something not covered by the plan, or they will perform the cheapest (and maybe not longest lasting) alternative treatment.

Bottom line: discount dental plans are not a good use of your limited funds. By calling the local dental society, you can get information on lower cost clinics which accept a sliding scale, or how to become a patient at the local dental school.
Reply:Go to http://www.discount-dental-plans.us , they have great plans
Reply:Your discount dental insurance is not a true dental insurance. These dentist pay someone to steer you to their office and you get what you pay for. Call their office and ask what their procedure is for new patients. Normally speaking they will tell you will need to have an exam and xrays and they will give you an estimtate of what it will cost and what needs to be done. This is usually routine.

You have to be carefull as to what they tell you needs to be done. They usually over treat to maximize their time. Trying to do as much as possbile in the shortest amount of time to make up for not getting full payment. They will also try and get you do treatement that is "not covered by the insurance". You might be safer to go to a younger dentist. At least they may be trying to build a practice by doing discount dentistry. I would be cautious about going to an older dentist since he is probably doing it since the quality of his work is so bad that no one that can pay wants to go to him.

You just have to understand you don't get something for nothing. Good dentistry takes time and money to deliver if it is discounted you have to at least wonder why. Your best bet is a younger dentist or a dentist just starting a practice who is willing to discount his dentisrtry since he has empty time and want to just fill it till he gets busy at which point he won't be discounting.

What's the best dental insurance provider for an individual that is not through an employer benefit package

I'm a freelancer so I can't really get insurance through my employer now. But I need to get my wisdom teeth removed, and will need braces as well. I may need jaw surgery eventually too. So what is the best dental insurance for individuals. Only respond if you have got the insurance yourself and are pleased with it.

I signed up on-line about 3 years ago and they have saved me alot of money on all my dental work. From Root Canals, Cleanings, Fillings etc...I know for a fact that all services are included ( braces, orthodontics and cosmetic surgery) They had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the same day. They even scheduled my appointment for me. I would hope you check them out, and see if the coverage is in your area. I know that they are nation wide.

Good Luck, Hope this helps
Reply:Private dental insurance is very expensive and usually doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. But, dental discount plans are very affordable and can save you 30-60% off on the average. Also, most of them cover pre-existing conditions. You can choose from numerous affordable dental discount plans by going to http://bestfitdentalplans.com and keying in your zip code to see which plans are available in your area.

I need dental insurance.?

I am 22 and don't have much money. But I need to find dental insurance without having a wait period. I need to get either one or two implants or bridges on my front teeth (according to one dentist), one of my crowns may fall out before my next 6 month appointment. So any recommendations for dental insurance in Nevada.

I need dental insurance.?
see this http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html it's one form to get a number of quotes from different insurers. It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you, if it works out remember my points please :)
Reply:I wish I knew!!! Let me know if you get any response. I'm a college student with no insurance at all. I haven't been to the dentist in several years and I am in quite a bit of pain due to a wisdom tooth problem. Email me if you get any answers? I'm in NJ.
Reply:I'm sorry to hear of your situation. Dentistry really is very expensive.

Unfortunately, no dental insurance is going to pay for implants. You could probably find one that will pay something towards a bridge but you will still be responsible for the majority of the treatment cost.

There is also a good chance they will deny your claim as pre-existing. Many insurances won't replace teeth that were missing when you bought the insurance.

Your best bet might be to find a dentist that offers payment plans through a finance company. The interest rates and terms are usually pretty reasonable. We use this a lot in my office.

I hope you find a way to make things work for you. Good Luck.
Reply:I have Ameriplan Dental. It's available all over the U.S. because my Aunt in Georgia has it also. I save nearly 80% at my dentist when I get my teeth cleaned. Here is the website where you can sign up http://www.MyBestDentalBenefits.com
Reply:You have five options with dental.

1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance. Unfortunately, this option probably won't work for you.

2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you.

Can you buy a dental insurance plan on its own?

I am presently on a COBRA plan with my health insurance, which is still ongoing, but my COBRA dental insurance runs out at the end of this month. The company (Blue Cross Blue Shiled) told me that they don't offer dental in itself. I'm presently a student and don't have options through a company. Is it possible to get dental insurance on its own from a provider? I imagine that this is the case, but I was hoping that people could lead me in the right direction!

Can you buy a dental insurance plan on its own?
if you are going to get insurance for yourself (only) you could put the money you would spend on premiums in a savings account and call it dental insurance about 80.00 a month (40.00 on the 1st and 40.00 on the 15th) that is about what you pay to have insurance (unless your job pays for some ) do this for one year ( usually waiting period anyway) then go to the dentist next year and you will have your own insurance and spend it how you want to in the dentist office. and if you don't need work done you can keep building it up for the next year!

Reply:Hello! I've asked my dentist about this just the other day because we also don't have insurance through my husband's company. They told me there are some, but it's usually not worth the money, because w/o a company helping pay the premiums,it's too costly.
Reply:I live in Oklahoma and BC/BS here offers an individual dental plan. It may differ from state to state, I'm not sure. Delta Dental offers a few individual plans and I can give you the 800 number. It's 1.800.522.0188 and you can press option 2. They have a couple of different individual plans and again I live in the state of Oklahoma so you may want to look up the Delta Dental in your state and call that number for information. Just type Delta Dental of (state name) in the search bar and it should pull it right up. Good luck, and I can't believe that BC/BS in your state doesn't offer an individual plan. Oklahoma has one.

What affordable dental insurance covers ortho? Can you suggest any?

I am looking for affordable dental insurance that covers ortho. I'm 29 yrs old and interested in getting one. I do have dental insurance - HMO, (BLue Cross) does this cover ortho?

What affordable dental insurance covers ortho? Can you suggest any?
Dental insurance has to be based on what your monthly premium is VS what your annual maximum is. Every dental insurance has a maximum they will pay. If your annual premium is 300.00 and your annual maximum is 1000.00 your really only getting 700.00. I've been in the field for 27 years and most insurance does not cover ortho or it is very limited. Stay away from the discount plans and HMO's in dentistry because you get what you pay for. Ortho is not only about making the teeth strait but the bite must be addressed when moving teeth. If not done correctly you can have grinding/clenching problems that eventually lead to joint problems. Some of the states that have Delta Dental have individual policies you can purchase with the above limits. Hope this helps.
Reply:Most dental coverage does not pay enough to be worth what you pay them. Also, most dental plans do not cover ortho for anyone over 19 or 20 years of age.

I don't have dental insurance.?

I don't have dental insurance and I haven't been to the dentist in years. Anyone know of any good dental discounts or insurance. I really want to go and get a cleaning and check up. I think i'll need some work done considering my jaw hurts and the gap in my teeth seems to be getting wider. Anyone else not have dental insurance? Thanks for the help

Reply:I don't have dental or medical health insurance either and desperately need dental work to be done. I do not have any answer to this as I've been searching for a long time to get an answer to where I can get dental work done, considering I do not earn enough money to pay for dental work. I do floss every nite, and I use an electric tooth brush, those things help.

Also scrape or brush tongue, and brush insides of cheeks and roof of mouth, and use a good quality mouth wash. And pray for what you need to be taken care of. It will be.
Reply:Try looking into a dental school or a dental hygiene school. You can usually at least get discounts on a cleaning and exam. Sometimes dentists will also need to have a patient to work on for certain certifications, so you can get some work done for free. It often takes a long time because you'll need to be examined by the instructors, but it may be worth it, especially if you need a lot of work done. My brother had his entire mouth re-done with gold inlays for free because a dentist needed to get certified in the state.
Reply:There are various types of dental insurance. A dental insurance is very much required so that in case of dental treatment a person need not spend huge money for the treatment.
